A COUPLE have been sentenced after selling fake designer goods in a Kirklees store.

Jumanah Nadeem and husband Mohammed Sarwar, of Millwater Avenue, Dewsbury, were sentenced at Leeds Crown Court for 10 counts of possessing and exposing for sale counterfeit designer clothing.

In addition they faced three counts of obtaining money transfers by deception by falsely representing the nature of their income in mortgage applications to net around £150,000.

The judge sentenced Sarwar to 51 weeks prison, suspended for 12 months and he was given a 200 hours community service order.

Nadeem was sentenced to 60 hours community service.

A Proceeds of Crime investigation is now under way.

Trading Standards officers raided their shop Miss Chief in Foundry Street, Dewsbury, and in an upstairs shop trading as Labels for Less officers seized 500 items of counterfeit designer clothing.

Three months later, in a second raid, a further 200 counterfeit items of clothing were found.
