SPECIAL parking arrangements are being drawn up for a massive street festival in Kirklees.

Excitement is building for next week’s annual outdoor street show in Dewsbury.

Spirit returns with a parade on Friday, February 26, of giant fire-breathing dragons, performed by the Spanish street theatre company, Sarruga who take their shows around the world.

The parade will start outside Dewsbury Town Hall at 7pm and the dragons and performers will follow a route through the town centre returning to the town hall for the finale. It is expected that the show will finish at 8pm.

A Kirklees Council spokesman said: “Due to the large number of people that we are expecting to come and watch the show, people are being encouraged to use public transport to get into town wherever possible.

“For people coming by car there will be free parking from 6pm at Dewsbury Retail Park, Railway Street, thanks to Euro Car Parks and the retailers.

“There will be designated disabled parking at the Whitehall Way car park for blue badge holders with access via Northgate. Stewards will be on hand on the day to direct drivers.

“Due to the event itself and the works taking place at the town hall, on-street parking around the town hall will not be available.”

Clr Peter McBride, cabinet member for regeneration said: “I am very excited to have Sarruga performing. I encourage everyone to come to the town centre and enjoy the free performance. It is fantastic that many of our shops and cafes are staying open late and supporting the event, which will give a real buzz to the town centre.”I encourage everyone to come to the town centre and enjoy the free performance.
