A 45-year-old Dewsbury man has admitted being involved in a wholesale drugs conspiracy following a covert police operation last year.

A jury at Bradford Crown Court heard today that Mohammed Azam Yaqoob was one of a number of men who had already pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge which followed a police raid on a flat in Bradford more than 15 months ago.

Prosecutor David Hall said it was alleged that Yaqoob, of North Road, Ravensthorpe, and Wyke man Mohammed Dawood Aslam, 35, played ''the lead roles'' in the conspiracy which involved the wholesale supply of heroin and crack cocaine.

The jury heard that Aslam, of Hudson View, had not attended at court for his trial this week, but three other men have now gone on trial accused of being part of the conspiracy to supply controlled drugs.

Among them is a second Dewsbury man Bilal Mulla, 29, of Thornhill Street, who Mr Hall alleged acted as a link between Yaqoob and Aslam.

The court heard that during the police inquiry officers used covert surveillance to observe the alleged conspirators and even installed a concealed camera outside the entrance to the rented flat in Lister Court, Bradford.

Mr Hall told the jury that when police raided the flat in February 2012 they found ''an industrial quantity of heroin'' and over £100,000 worth of crack cocaine.

He said almost 30 kilograms of heroin was found and the drug could have had a street value of between £1.5 million and £5 million depending on the purity of the deals.

Mr Hall highlighted photographs of the inside of the modern first floor apartment which showed heroin in various locations including the washing machine.

Officers also found a quantity of ''cutting agent'' used to bulk out drugs, disposable gloves, alleged ''dealer lists'' and kitchen utensils contaminated with heroin paste.

Mr Hall told the jury that mobile telephone evidence showed that Yaqoob was the person who had a connection with the Manchester source of the drugs.

The jury heard that they would be hearing details of the police observations of the alleged conspirators and detailed evidence from an analyst who had looked at the mobile phone data.

It is also expected that footage taken using the concealed camera will be used to show the comings and goings at the flat in the days leading up to the police raid.

Mulla and two Bradford men 31-year-old Naveed Ahmed, of Byron Street, and Jamal Mahroof, 23, of Karam Close, have all pleaded not guilty to the conspiracy charge. The trial continues.
