A MAN has been jailed for a baseball bat attack in Dewsbury.

Izhar Khalid, 20, hit his victim so hard that the bat broke, Leeds Crown Court was told.

The victim, Ansar Rehman, suffered head wounds and spent two days in hospital after the attack last August.

Khalid, of Lees Holme, Thornhill Lees, Dewsbury, was given a two-year sentence in a young offender’s institution after he admitted wounding.

Michael Collins, prosecuting, told the court that Khalid had been drinking before the attack, which happened at his home.

“He was experimenting with drink, having grown up in a Muslim household where drinking is not allowed. He was drinking with friends and drank too much”.

Recorder Neil Davey QC told Khalid: “You struck him so many times with the bat it broke.

“The broken bat had clumps of your victim’s hair and skin on it.”
