A MAN has been tagged after he failed to complete his punishment for possessing a crossbow.

Huddersfield magistrates heard yesterday how Darren Brogan had been arrested on Gisbourne Road in Bradley in possession of a loaded and cocked crossbow that was ready to fire.

Brogan said he had been using the weapon to hunt rabbits but pleaded guilty to the offence of possessing a dangerous weapon.

He was given 150 hours of community service for the offence in August last year.

But yesterday Brogan was back in front of magistrates after he breached his community order for the fourth time.

Ian Whiteley, defending, said Brogan had missed his appointments because he was homeless. Mr Whiteley also pointed out that his client had completed more than two thirds of his order and appealed for magistrates to not impose a custodial sentence.

Magistrates revoked Brogan’s remaining community service but decided to spare him from prison.

They instead imposed a two-month curfew and warned him if he breached it he would be jailed.

Brogan is now barred from leaving his address on Elmwood Terrace in Dewsbury between 7am and 7pm.
