FIREFIGHTERS managed to prevent a Dewsbury mill from a major fire.

A kiln at Dyson Ceramics had caught fire at 12.50am on Sunday.

Dewsbury fire crews were forced to break into the mill to tackle the blaze.

It happened on the ground floor of a three-storey mill on Preston Street in the town.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the mill to fight the fire using two jets.

They managed to contain the fire to a small area and prevent it from spreading.

A smoke extractor was used while the mop-up operation continues.
