DEWSBURY’S MP could open an office in Kirkburton or Denby Dale.

The Conservative said yesterday he would consider setting up a base in the rural part of the constituency if necessary.

“There are a number of premises in Kirkburton and Denby Dale that we could use if we thought we needed that presence,” he said.

Mr Reevell, who was elected to Parliament last month, was speaking from his new office above Reeds Rains estate agents in Dewsbury town centre.

The MP said he and his staff would try to serve all parts of the constituency, which includes Mirfield, Denby Dale and Kirkburton. He said: “On the first Saturday of each month we will have a street stall alternating between Dewsbury and Mirfield.

“On the third Saturday of each month we will have a street stall alternating between Kirkburton and Denby Dale.

“I will also hold constituency surgeries in Shelley and Skelmanthorpe.”

Mr Reevell has also taken on Denby Dale Conservative councillor Jim Dodds as a part-time case-worker.

Mr Reevell pledged to put his constituents before bosses in Westminster.

“I think an MP should be independently-minded. I won’t try to persuade people in the constituency that the Government is right if I don’t believe it is.”

Mr Reevell, who worked as a barrister before he was elected to Parliament, said he may take on new cases.

He said: “If circumstances arise where I’m asked to deal with something, and it’s no detriment to my role as an MP, I will look at it. I have no objection to MPs outside of Parliament, I think it makes them better MPs.”

He added that he would work with Kirklees leader Clr Mehboob Khan.

Mr Reevell said: “I had a really nice meeting with him on Friday, I’d never met him before.

“Clr Khan is a Labour guy but so what? He’s the man who runs the council and we have to get on with our jobs. I think people prefer it when politicians work together.”
