DEWSBURY MP Simon Reevell has expressed serious concerns about proposals to close the children’s cardiac unit in Leeds.

Health bosses have conducted a review into all eleven units in England which currently offer such services and have proposed four options.

Three of the four options involve closing the children’s unit at Leeds General Hospital.

Conservative MP Mr Reevell, has joined with campaigners and local MPs from across the political spectrum in opposing the proposals.

He attended a meeting in the House of Commons on Tuesday with representatives from the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund and has lobbied the Health Secretary Andrew Lansley and other health ministers about the issue.

Mr Reevell said: “When your child is in need of complex medical treatment the last thing you want to do is travel hundreds of miles to a distant location.”
