DEWSBURY’S MP will discuss the proposed closure of the town’s magistrates’ and county courts with a Government minister.

Simon Reevell has expressed concern about potential job losses if Batley and Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court and the county court are axed as part of sweeping cuts.

The Ministry of Justice is proposing to close 103 magistrates’ and 54 county courts nationally.

Mr Reevell is worried for the future of the 48 people employed at the two courts in Dewsbury.

Following a meeting with justice secretary Ken Clarke MP, he has set up a talks with the minister with responsibility for HM Courts Service, Jonathan Djanogly.

The meeting will take place before parliament breaks up for its summer recess.
