A COUNCIL building will have a starring role in a popular soap next week.

The courtroom of Dewsbury Town Hall (pictured) was used to film scenes of Emmerdale.

The room, part of the Grade II listed Victorian building, will feature next week during the murder trial of Aaron Livesy.

Dewsbury Town Hall has been used for other TV programmes, including ITV1 drama Eternal Law, which will be broadcast in early 2012.

The Kirklees Council-owned building also featured in BBC4’s Spanish Flu – The Forgotten Fallen and BBC1’s Five Days.

The town hall also hosted BBC1’s Question Time last year. It was the first edition of the long-running panel show to feature an all-female audience.

Council spokesman Richard Batterby said: “Over the past few years we’ve been working closely with Screen Yorkshire to encourage TV and film production companies to use the town halls in Kirklees as filming locations.”
