DIAMONDS are forever - and true love has been, too, for Kirkheaton couple Bessie and Norman McCormack.

The couple, of Orchard Road, have just celebrated their diamond wedding.

They were married 60 years ago at Huddersfield Register Office.

Mr McCormack, 94, and his wife, 83, met while working at Shaw's mill in Milnsbridge. She lived in Milnsbridge and he had moved there from Elland to be an engineer.

Mr McCormack was an engineer in the Ministry of Aircraft Production during the Second World War.

He worked at Shaw's until the mill closed. He then became an engineer at James Haigh's factory on Colne Road.

His wife worked at Shaw's until her sons, Edward and Stephen, were born.

Later Mrs McCormack became a cook in the canteen at Whitley Willows mill, near Lepton.

The couple both enjoy gardening. Mr McCormack also enjoys painting.

They celebrated their diamond wedding by going out for a meal with their younger son, Stephen.

They plan a full family celebration when Mr McCormack has his 95th birthday on Monday.
