BROCKHOLES couple Cyril and Edith Butterworth are celebrating their diamond wedding.

Mr and Mrs Butterworth, both 80, were married at Honley Parish Church on November 4 in 1944.

Mrs Butterworth came from Honley and Mr Butterworth was from Jackson Bridge.

The couple knew each other as children and lost touch but met again as teenage sweethearts at Holmfirth Feast.

After naval service, Mr Butterworth took over the role of chief engineer at Dobroyd Mills in Jackson Bridge from his father.

Mrs Butterworth worked in a textile mill at Honley until their son Tony was born in 1947.

After marrying, the couple lived at Jackson Bridge before moving to their current home on New Mill Road at Brockholes.

When Dobroyd Mill shut in 1974, Mr Butterworth worked at Newsome's Mill in Batley as chief engineer until it closed.

The couple plan to celebrate their anniversary today with friends, and with family on Saturday.
