HAPPY couple Gordon and Barbara Dransfield hit the right note when they met in the early 40s.

The Linthwaite couple, pictured now and on their wedding day, met at a dance at Cambridge Road Baths in Huddersfield, where Mr Dransfield was playing trumpet in the band and his wife was with friends.

Now, 60 years on, the couple are celebrating their diamond wedding with a celebration for family and friends.

Mrs Dransfield, née Booth, said: “It was a beautiful day and everyone came together, all our family and friends. It was wonderful.

“Afterwards we went to St Anne’s for a honeymoon.”

The couple wed at Linthwaite Church on August 28, 1948, and were delighted to see Mr Dransfield’s band perform as they left the church.

Mr Dransfield, 81, ran his own joinery business in Meltham, while Mrs Dransfield, 82, worked for an engineering company and raised the couple’s two children.

They also have four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs Dransfield believes the secret of a happy marriage is give and take.

She added: “I think you have to work well together and take an interest in each others hobbies, too.

“I never thought I would play golf, but I was fed up of being a golf widow.

“I found it was something I enjoyed and I went on to become the ladies’ captain at the Crosland Heath club.’’

The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a party at the Crosland Heath club.
