SLAITHWAITE couple Charles and Edith Gaunt celebrate their diamond wedding tomorrow.

Mr and Mrs Gaunt, of Tudor Street, are celebrating on Saturday with a party for family and friends.

They are pictured now and on their wedding day.

The couple met during the war when Mrs Gaunt, 83, was serving with the Women's Auxiliary Airforce and Mr Gaunt, 85, was with the Royal Artillery.

They married at Huntington Parish Church, near York, Mrs Gaunt's home ground.

Mr Gaunt returned to textiles after the war, working for several mills and retiring from the Saddleworth Woollen Company after 10 years as a loom tuner.

Mrs Gaunt retired from former Colne Road firm Elcar's, where she was an accounts clerk for about 15 years.

The couple have a son and daughter, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

They were keen sequence dancers but now spend more time together and enjoy jigsaw puzzles.

Instead of gifts, the couple are asking for donations to the charity the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust.
