MELTHAM couple Michael and Florence Mullarkey have celebrated their diamond wedding.
Mr Mullarkey, 84, and Mrs Mullarkey, 81, were married at St Patrick's RC Church in Huddersfield town centre on April 20, 1946.
The couple - pictured now and on their wedding day - grew up together on Leeds Road in Huddersfield.
At the time of their marriage Mrs Mullarkey was a machinist at John Kaye's textile firm on King's Mill Lane.
She left the job when she got married.
Mr Mullarkey was serving in the Naval Reserve. During the Second World War he served on submarines based in Alexandria in Egypt, Syria, Aden and Colombo in Sri Lanka.
He left the Navy in 1947 and worked for Leeds Fireclay brickyard in Huddersfield.
He then went to work as a maintenance fitter at chemical firm ICI on Leeds Road.
He stayed there until he retired.
The couple have two children, Michael and Maureen, three grandsons and a granddaughter.
Their family joined them for a celebration meal at Dirker Roods Hotel in Meltham on Sunday.
