A COUPLE who have been married for 60 years have devoted much of their time to helping disabled people.
Arthur and Margaret Ledgard, from Hove Edge in Brighouse, have toasted their diamond wedding anniversary.
Mr Ledgard, 84, and Mrs Ledgard, 79, have worked to improve the lives of disabled people across the country and in the Huddersfield area.
Mr Ledgard was given the MBE for his services to disabled motorists.
The pensioner was a member of the RAC associate committee with special responsibility for disabled motorists.
And he instigated and helped to design RAC Response, which is a specially-designed rescue package for disabled travellers.
Mr Ledgard also served on the Disabled Drivers’ Motor Club council.
Mr Ledgard told the Examiner: “My wife finished work when she was 60 and she came all over the country with me – she was a great help.”
The couple, who have four children, nine grandchildren and six great-grand-children celebrated with a dinner dance at Lane Head Hotel in Brighouse.
