THEY met on a trip accompanied by stars of stage, screen and song.
And their long marriage must have been written in the stars, for Thongsbridge couple Brenda and Malcolm Mallinson have celebrated their diamond wedding.
They had met each other on an organised trip to Harrogate and Knaresborough, attended by Huddersfield actor Kenneth Waller, who starred in TV comedy Bread, Coronation Street actress Thelma Barlow, pianist Philip Charles and singer Peggie Castle.
The couple married 60 years ago at Kirkheaton Parish Church – a sunny day which turned into thunderstorms as they enjoyed an evening reception in the village’s school hall – where ham salad was their only choice because of rationing.
Mrs Mallinson, nee Ellis, now 81, worked as a clerk for the Co-operative and Mr Mallinson, 84, was a clerk for Eddinson, Taylor and Booths.
After the wedding they took the ferry from Liverpool to the Isle of Man for a two-week honeymoon.
The couple have two children, Roger and Adele, and five grandchildren, Evie, Sophie, Katie, Olivia and Fraser.
Mr Mallinson was a Huddersfield and Holmfirth magistrates for 28 years, and the couple are both honorary members of Holmfirth Civic Society.
Their diamond wedding celebrations included a meal with family and friends.
