A HUDDERSFIELD disability organisation has been given £108,000.

The Harriet Tubman Development Agency, based at the St John's Resource Centre on St John's Road, provides services for disabled people and their carers.

It received the money from the Department of Works and Pensions Service Fund, which was set up to pay for schemes which encourage older people to use benefits available to them.

Maurion Smith, the agency's chairman, said she was delighted to get the grant.

She added: "With this money the company will enable more people to access and claim benefits quicker."

The agency will spend the money on helping people access benefits through its Community Care Access service and its Black and South Asian Carers service.
