FIREFIGHTERS responding to an explosion call at Kirklees College today have found a three-storey accomodation block collapsed - as part of a scenario training exercise.

The call, which was responded to with no prior knowledge by crews, will see emergency services pushed to the limit to free 40 live casualites who have been placed in the rubble.

Firefighters will be joined by West Yorkshire’s Urban Search and Rescue Team and police and paramedics from across the country throughout the two nights and three days of the mock situation.

Due to the exercise and the amount of emergency services in the area, road closures and parking  restrictions will be in place along Portland Street, Fitzwilliam Street and New North Road from today until December 22.
