BUSINESS owners are being sought to take part in a discount scheme run by Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing.
KNH is about to produce its 2008 Excel discount card, which enables council tenants, leaseholders and KNH staff to save money on goods and services provided by local businesses.
The scheme is part of Kirklees Excel, which rewards and recognises good tenants.
It is the first of its kind in the country.
In May it won the most innovative project award from the National Federation of Arms Length Management Organisations.
To join the scheme businesses have to offer cardholders a discount for 12 months, 10% off, buy one, get one free or whatever suits the business best.
In return for this generosity KNH produces a brochure listing business that are taking part and gives them window posters and stickers to show people they are involved.
Carpets Direct on Leeds Road in Huddersfield took part in the scheme.
Owner Mike Oller said: “When the card was launched this year we had quite a few people in the shop using their card, not just regulars claiming a discount, but lots of new customers.
“It’s been better than advertising for us, not just because it’s free, but also because I get more customers! I’m more than happy to be rejoining the scheme.’’
So far more than 150 businesses have signed up, but KNH want more.
