DISCOUNT retailer Aldi is putting the finishing touches to its new Huddersfield store.

The German-owned company is set to open at Beck Road Industrial Estate, off St John’s Road on Thursday, February 26.

It will be the second Aldi store in the town, following the opening of a store at the former rugby union ground off Wakefield Road, Waterloo, before Christmas.

Aldi also plans to open a third store in the town – although the location has not been revealed.

About 15 jobs will be created at the B eck Road store, which will offer customers goods including locally baked bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, household cleaners, beauty products, deli foods, frozen foods and wines and spirits.

The store will also run regular offers on products ranging from televisions, flowers and fitness products.

Will Charles, area manager at Huddersfield, said: “Final preparations are well underway for the grand opening. We look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to the store and showing them all that Aldi has to offer.”

Aldi opened its first UK stores in 1990 and now has more than 300 shops across the country.

They include 20 stores across Yorkshire and Lancashire, including ones at Branch Road in Batley and at Crossley Retail Park, Halifax.
