A NEW campaign aimed at providing European cash to African farmers is being supported by Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman.
He is part of an all-party group of MPs aiming to collect a massive petition for action.
The Help Africa Campaign aims to switch cash being given in subsidies from the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
At the moment, large sums go to rich European farmers.
Mr Sheerman wants that to go to people living with Aids in Africa.
He said a ruling within European law said any petition containing at least one million signatures and backed by five European Union members would prompt action by the EU.
Switching the CAP subsidies would mean £5bn a year in European cash for people living with Aids in Africa.
He said: "I will be writing to every mosque, church and religious leader in Kirklees asking for their support for this petition."
