CANDLES were lit at a Huddersfield company at the start of Diwali.

Workers at Cummins Turbo Technologies at St Andrew’s Road took part in an event to mark the Hindu festival of lights.

Local community champion Kiran Bali spoke to Cummins workers about what Diwali means to her.

She said: “Working together, we can create local communities that have a shared sense of belonging, empowerment and a belief that everyone can make a difference to improve where they live and work.

“What Diwali really stands for is a reaffirmation of hope, a renewed commitment to friendship and goodwill and a religiously sanctioned celebration of the joys of our precious life.”

The conference has been organised by the Diversity Council, made up of volunteers at Cummins Turbo Technologies.

Cummins president Jim Lyons said: “Cummins is committed to developing diversity – it is identified as a key behaviour where world class performance will drive company success.

“We believe that the diversity of individuals and organisations creates an environment where innovation and ideas flourish.”
