A HUDDERSFIELD doctor will face charges in front of the General Medical Council today.

A disciplinary panel meeting in Manchester will hear allegations that the private doctor deliberately destroyed a patient's breast X-ray after she died of cancer.

Dr John Philip examined the woman twice - once in 1994 and once in 1996 - and both times gave her the all clear, the panel will hear.

Months after the second examination she was diagnosed with breast cancer and she later died.

Dr Philip, from Huddersfield, is accused of not following Royal College of Radiologists' criteria for reading breast X-rays.

After the diagnosis, the General Medical Council claims, the doctor destroyed the mammogram from the first screening.

The Fitness to Practise Panel, sitting in Manchester, has the power to withdraw the doctor's registration if he is found guilty of misconduct.
