A HUDDERSFIELD GP has hung up his stethoscope after 29 years of caring for people in Milnsbridge.

Dr Bharat Bhasin, 66, has retired from the New Street practice he set up singlehandedly in 1976.

The father-of-three, who lives in Milnsbridge, trained as a doctor in India more than 40 years ago.

He came to Britain in 1966 and spent time working in hospitals before becoming a GP.

He said: "I am sad because I have always considered my patients as my family and I have tried to do my best for them.

"I would like to thank all the patients who sent beautiful cards and who have wished me a happy retirement."

Dr Bhasin will continue as chairman of the local medical committee for a further two years.

He now looks forward to spending time with his family and travelling with his wife.
