FIREFIGHTERS rescued a slippery customer last night.

Crews went to Cowlersley Lane, Cowlersley, at 10pm.

When they arrived at the scene of the emergency they discovered that the owner's pet dog had ended up with its head wedged in a hole in a horsebox which it had been using as a kennel.

Crew Manager Wayne Ogden said: "We couldn't tell what sort of dog it was. The owners had used extra virgin olive oil to try and free their pet - but he was still stuck tight!"

Fire crews cut into the box and then cut round the hole to free the pooch.

Crew Manager Ogden added: "He was a very well-behaved dog. He didn't wriggle too much as we were cutting him free.

"We didn't ask the owner his name - but we christened him Olive!"
