TOUGH action against danger dogs was outlined today.

The so-called “Dogbo” orders would allow police officers and council officials to force miscreant owners to muzzle, leash or even neuter their pets.

The dogs could even be confiscated.

The new Government proposals come days after an attack on mum Waheed Akhtar, 26, at Lockwood.

Ms Akhtar was badly mauled by a pitbull as she tried to protect her baby son in Upper Mount Street. Two men have been arrested but Ms Akhtar remains in hospital.

The measures, part of proposed changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act, are aimed at tackling the growing problem of dogs being bred as weapons.

Owners could be required to insure themselves against the risk of their pet attacking someone.

Government proposals suggest forcing every dog owner to take out third party insurance and to have their dog microchipped.
