HUNDREDS of greyhounds are to go walkies in Huddersfield to raise cash for a dog rescue centre.

Around 200 dogs and their owners will take part in a sponsored walk on Saturday to raise money for Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue.

A similar sponsored walk was held last year to mark the start of Tia's appeal to raise funds for a new rescue centre.

The charity will have to leave its current base at Sowerby Bridge on October 15.

Although Tia owns the rescue centre building, the land used to exercise the dogs is rented from Yorkshire Water, which is building on the site.

Last year's sponsored walk was organised by students and staff from Huddersfield Technical College's Animal Care Department, who were touched by Tia's plight.

The dogs and owners will set off from Huddersfield Technical College's main car park on New North Road at 11am.

They will then make their way to the Piazza shopping area for noon.

There will be cake and greyhound merchandise stalls on the Piazza, as well as a raffle.

All proceeds will go to Tia. To download a sponsor form, visit Tia's website at www.tiagrey hounds.org.uk.
