Local dogs are needed to take the lead in an extra-special canine fund-raising event.

The RSPCA wants lots of support for its challenge next month.

The charity’s Halifax, Huddersfield and district branch is hosting its second Big Walkies and organisers hope to outstrip the swell of support in 2015.

Big Walkies is a sponsored 3k walk for pooches and their owners to show support for the charity’s local hub and it takes place at Shibden Park in Halifax on September 25 at 11am.

All sponsorship will go towards providing care, training and rehabilitation for animals seeking forever homes in Calderdale and Kirklees.

Branch fund-raiser Lauren Moore said: “We had great support last year and hope to see them all again - and more - next month.”

Dogs of all shapes and sizes can take part. To register visit www.rspca.org.uk/bigwalkies . It costs £10 to register, after which you get a Big Walkies pack with full details of the event.

The RCA branch is a self-funding arm of the national charity.
