COUNCILLORS will next week look at joining forces with country singer Dolly Parton.

Calderdale councillors will consider the creation of an ‘Imagination Library’ based on the American singer’s foundation to provide free books to children.

It comes after Cabinet approved a budget of £380,000 until 2013 for the scheme earlier this year.

But next week they will consider entering into a partnership with the singer’s Dollywood Foundation UK Limited company.

The Imagination Library is a literacy scheme for under-fives which delivers by post one age appropriate book each month, building up a library of 60 books. The cost per book per month per child is £2.10 – £25.20 every year.

The decision will be made by the panel next Tuesday, May 4.
