A PLAN to convert an abandoned pub into a pizza chain outlet has been blocked.

Pizza giant Domino’s hoped to open a new takeaway at Honley in the vacant Railway Hotel premises.

The company, which has more than 650 outlets across the UK – including one in Huddersfield town centre – said it would invest in the property and claimed that its activities would not disturb locals.

Domino’s said only 30% of orders would be purchased by people visiting the store and so traffic problems would not be an issue.

It also claimed its high specification ventilation system would reduce odours for nearby homes.

But Kirklees Council planners gave the plan for the Huddersfield Road pub the thumbs down.

Planners said the company had not demonstrated that noise levels would not disturb adjacent residents and said insufficient parking provision would cause on-street parking and manoeuvring that would be detrimental to highway safety.
