A CAREER in plumbing looks set to be something more than a pipe dream for Donna Lockwood.

The Newsome High School pupil is keen to fulfil her ambition after two weeks' work experience in the trade.

Donna, 15, of Lowerhouses, told her father shortly before his death in July of her ambition.

"He told me to go for it and that he would be proud of me if I achieved it," she said.

And her mum Yvonne has also pledged her support to her daughter in her chosen career.

Crosland Moor company the 3A Group, of Blackmoorfoot Road, was happy to give Donna a chance and she exceeded all expectations.

3A managing director Andy Aldridge said all the plumbing and heating engineers with whom Donna worked had good things to say about her work.

"As a company we believe that anyone with a talent and ambition should be given the opportunity to succeed.

"We now employ women in several sectors of the business."

Donna is now working hard for her GCSEs and hopes to gain an apprenticeship with a plumbing and heating firm when she leaves school next summer.

"I always worked alongside my dad when he was doing jobs at home and it's just always been something I wanted to do. The work experience at 3A was brilliant," she said.
