PEOPLE are being urged to cast their vote early if they’re going on holiday ahead of the local elections.

Due to Easter, the Royal Wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton (right) and May bank holidays the Electoral Commission says people may miss out because they are on holiday and out of the country.

So far in Calderdale 146,548 people are registered to vote out of approximately 192,400.

The local elections and AV referendum take place on May 5.

Calderdale Electoral Registration Officer, Owen Williams, is warning residents to act now.

He said: “Anyone who has moved house in the past few months needs to register with their new address and we know there are many people throughout Calderdale who have not yet registered to vote, which means they will be missing out unless they take action.”

Barbara Lines from the Electoral Commission, adds: “Residents may also be planning to be away on May 5, given the extra Bank Holiday for the Royal Wedding.

“So it’s worth applying now to vote by post or proxy if that will suit your plans. You can print off the forms from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk.

It just takes a few minutes, and then you are all set for May 5 .”
