A PLAN to sell the site of a Kirklees old people's home could be reversed.

Dewsbury East councillor Dennis Hullock wants the council Cabinet to scrap the sale of the land at Ashworth Court.

The Lib Dem councillor submitted a motion calling for a new council-run home on the town centre site.

Ashworth Court residential home closed in July.

And last month the Cabinet decided to sell the site - along with Greenacres in Meltham and Lydgate House in Batley - as long as buyers provided services for elderly people.

Clr Hullock said: "The sell- off would leave many older people unable to afford care."

But the Cabinet member for social services, Clr Margaret Bates, pointed the finger of blame at the previous Lib Dem administration.

The Conservative said: "I want everyone to remember that the Lib Dems closed Ashworth Court."

The Lib Dem motion calling on the Cabinet to reconsider the sale of Ashworth Court was carried with Labour support. The Conservatives voted against.
