BUDDING performers arrived at Huddersfield Town Hall last night for the start of the 121st Mrs Sunderland Music Festival.

The celebration of vocal, instrumental and choral music, speech and drama and poetry continues until Saturday, February 27.

Chairman Michael Hampshire said: “We have more than 1,000 entries with choirs and bands coming in from as far and wide as Belfast and Wales.

“The standard as ever is really high.

“The first weekend up to Sunday is all singing and there are three rooms in the Town Hall in operation.

“On the first Saturday there is also percussion in the University.”

The performances are adjudicated on by a team of experts and all of the sessions are open to the public for a small charge.
