A MAN with two drink driving convictions has got his licence back early so he can get a new job.

Christopher Buckley told Huddersfield magistrates yesterday he has completely stopped drinking and has not touched a drop of alcohol for the last eight months.

The 36-year-old was banned from the road for three years in May 2006 after he was convicted of his second drink driving offence.

He was also convicted of drink driving in 2000 and has completed two drink driving rehabilitation courses, one finishing earlier this year.

Buckley, of Luck Lane in Marsh, now works as an environmental health officer for Manchester City Council, but has successfully applied for a similar role at Calderdale Council in Halifax.

But to take up the position he needs to be able to drive again.

He told magistrates at the moment his journey to and from work in Manchester takes four hours a day.

He said the rehabilitation courses had shown him the dangers of drink driving.

“I’m totally against drink driving and don’t drink at all now,’’ he said. “I gave up about eight months ago. It’s not something I would go back to. I’ve come so close to losing my job and livelihood.’’

Magistrates agreed to end the ban early so Buckley could apply to get his licence back from DVLA and take up his new job.
