THE town has suffered its wettest January in more than a decade.
Huddersfield received double the average rainfall in the first month of the year.
The heavy rain led to the flooding problems, with many homes and businesses flooded.
A total of 218.4mm of rain was recorded in Huddersfield. The national average is 101.53mm.
Weather experts at Huddersfield University said it was the wettest month since August 2004, when 235.2mm was recorded.
It was the fifth wettest month since the university records began in 1990.
The worst day of the month was Sunday, January 20, when 14% of the month’s rainfall fell.
Only five days escaped without any rain at all.
Even though it was one of the wettest months, it was also one of the warmest Januarys in almost two decades.
Temperatures varied from -1.5°C to 13.9°C, with an average of 7.05°C.
The temperature fell below zero on only two days of the month.
January was also a very windy month in Huddersfield, with a top wind speed of 122.04km per hour recorded on Thursday January 31.
