Dozens of people turned out to support the Alternative Youth Market in New Street, a showcase event for young people aged from 13 to 29 years old.

Following the success of last year’s Alternative Markets, Kirklees Council, decided to launch a regular monthly event in the town for young entrepreneurs.

The Alternative Youth Market will now take place on the second Sunday of each month from 11am to 4pm.

Entrepreneurs put on a display of handmade fashions, jewellery, photography and arts as well as home backing, gifts and toys.

Clr Peter McBride, cabinet member for Regeneration said: “The Alternative Market is a wonderful opportunity for our young people to bring their products to market and to showcase their talents.

The Alternative Market team are looking for designers, bakers, artists and photographers.

They also want to hear from any young singers, rappers, dancers, performers or comedians who would like to take part.
