A HUDDERSFIELD pub is launching a drag queen competition to raise money for Kirkwood Hospice.

Dragtastic kicks off at The Greyhound on Manchester Road, just out of the town centre, on November 12 as part of the pub's Miss Greyhound 2006 competition.

The contest features six regular men who, within seven weeks, have to transform themselves into convincing queens.

Each week a different queen will strut her stuff, culminating in a grand final.

Each contestant will receive a drag masterclass from TV drag artist Kitty Litter (aka landlord Billy Mac), Missdameana and Vaniza, together with make-up, wigs and clothing.

The winner will receive a cash prize and three paid bookings in venues across the north of England where punters won't be told about the gender of the star!

Greyhound landlord Billy said: "We want a mix of people, straight guys not gay men. We hope to get local hairdresser and wig suppliers involved."

Billy, who has appeared on TV's Night Fever, Graham Norton and The Weakest Link, said: "We wanted to raise money for the hospice and it's different to having a coffee morning!"

Dragtastic will continue at the Old Shears in Halifax next year.
