TEENAGE girls who found out their dream holiday was cancelled at the last minute have now been told they can’t get their cash back.
Iesha Joseph, from Bradley, and Natasha Trew, from Newsome, were due to fly to Ayia Napa, Cyprus, tomorrow for a week’s holiday, booked in February.
The 17-year-olds’ families had spent more than £900 between them on the trip, plus hundreds of pounds on holiday clothes.
But they found out on Tuesday – four days before the flight – that a third girl had failed to pay for her share of the holiday.
The 18-year-old was the named adult on the trip. Because of their ages, Iesha and Natasha were unable to go on their own.
Now travel agents Thomson have told the girls they won’t get a refund.
Natasha said: “I was shocked and stunned and really upset.”
Natasha’s mum Monica Sheridan said: “We have been told we have no rights at all and the holiday insurance won’t pay out.
“We’ve spent so much trying to get the girls on holiday. Now we’re skint.
“We just want to warn other people about this sort of thing.”
Iesha’s mum Jenny said: “We had been paying off the holiday bit by bit up until June. As far as we were concerned everything was in place and it was only last Tuesday we found out what had happened.
“It’s not the holiday company’s fault, but these girls have suffered because of someone else’s mistake. I’m really angry about it.”
A Thomson spokesman said the matter was out of the company’s hands because the holiday was booked through package deal provider Olympic Holidays.
He said: “Customer satisfaction is always of paramount importance to Thomson, and we are sorry to hear of Miss Joseph’s and Miss Trew’s holiday being cancelled due to non-payment.
“However, as this was an Olympic holiday, the Thomson shop was acting as a booking agent and therefore bound to follow the booking terms of Olympic Holidays.
“Unfortunately, this meant cancelling the holiday if full payment was not received by a specified date.
“The lead name on the booking did not pay her part of the total cost, despite being contacted many times, hence the entire holiday had to be cancelled.
“We are sorry for any disappointment this has caused Miss Joseph and Miss Trew.”
