GUTSY singer Nikk Mager will perform to thousands – just days after being told to give up his dream.
The Greetland man failed to win a place on ITV show The X Factor last week.
Millions of viewers saw judge Simon Cowell tell Nikk, 24, to give up trying to be a pop star.
But the former Huddersfield Grammar School pupil will perform at a festival in Norwich on Monday.
Nikk said: “I’m really, really excited about this.
“It’s a good gig, there should be about 10,000 people there. I think I’m going to be one of the headliners because The X Factor was so huge.”
He plans to do three songs – including Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol – at the Escape to the Music Festival.
Nikk hopes he can use the event to prove The X Factor judges wrong.
He said: “My aim is to get a career regardless of what Simon said. Hopefully people will be interested to see if I can cut it live.”
And Nikk also hopes to release a single later this year.
He said: “I’ve signed up with a management company in London and they are going to push me all the way.
“I’ve spoken to a few songwriters who’ve worked with people like Will Young and The Lighthouse Family.
“I’m hoping to get a single out in November and an album in the new year.”
Nikk has been pursuing his dream of pop stardom for years.
In 2002 he appeared on reality show Popstars: The Rivals.
He went on to be a member of the group Phixx who performed with Girls Aloud and Blue at the Galpharm Stadium in 2004.
Nikk has performed solo at clubs across Yorkshire.
