A POSTER campaign has been launched at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary to help prevent the spread of disease there.

The level of infections that patients are catching in hospitals is causing major problems in the NHS.

National Infection Control Week - which ends tomorrow - was launched to counteract the spread of diseases.

The infection control team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust has staged a spot-the-mistake poster competition.

Nurses have created a picture of easy mistakes which could happen in a busy ward and increase the risk of infection to patients.

The campaign's aim is to raise awareness of potential infection risks to patients by promoting discussion in a fun way.

Infection control nurse Carole Hallam said: "About 30% of healthcare-related infections can be prevented with good practices.

"We hope this campaign will have a significant effect on reducing the risk of infection to patients."

Posters are being displayed around the HRI, Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax and St Luke's Hospital, Crosland Moor.

The answers will be displayed on the posters after the closing date of the competition, to give staff the opportunity to see where mistakes happened.
