A MAN aged 23 was arrested after a dramatic police chase in the Colne Valley.
Traffic police tried to stop a blue Mini Metro in Scar Lane, Milnsbridge, at 10.50am yesterday.
But the car sped off along Britannia Road, pursued by the Ford Mondeo police car.
The chase continued on James Street and Myrtle Road in Golcar, where the cars collided.
The pursuit finished back in Britannia Road, where the suspect got out of his car and fled.
He was pursued by police, but jumped into Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
The police helicopter swooped low over the area as other officers joined the search for the man. He was found hiding in undergrowth off Colne Vale Road.
The man, from Dalton, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police and motoring offences.
Pc Phil Shaw said: "Several drivers had to take evasive action during this incident. We would like to speak to them and anyone else who saw what happened."
