A MOTORIST was taken to hospital after being cut from his car.

Two cars collided at the junction of Station Road and James Street, Golcar, at 1.40pm yesterday.

The male driver of a Toyota Corolla was trapped in his vehicle as firefighters battled to release him by cutting the roof off his car.

Crew Manager Jimmy Johnstone from Huddersfield fire station said: “It took us about 35 minutes to get the man out of the car.

“We had to cut through the side of the car and cut the roof off as well to get to him.

“He was taken to hospital complaining of lower back injuries because of the side impact of the collision.”

The driver of the second car, a Vauxhall Cavalier, was not injured but was shaken up by the incident.
