A DRIVER who fled, leaving an injured friend trapped in a suspected stolen car after a crash, has been arrested.
The incident happened just before 2am yesterday at the junction of Waterloo Road and Westbrook Drive in Waterloo.
The car, a silver Vauxhall Corsa, had careered off the road and through a garden wall.
The car, which had four people in their 20s in it, only missed the house because it crashed into a large tree in the garden.
The driver fled and the two back seat passengers got out. But the passenger in the front was trapped.
Fire crews got her out of the car by cutting the roof off. She was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with neck and back injuries.
Crew Manager Dave Chadwick said: "In a strange way it was lucky the car hit the tree.
"The house was near where the car had stopped.
"If the tree had not been there, the car would almost certainly have gone through the house wall.
"The consequences for the people in the house - and in the car - may have been much worse."
Police arrested the driver a few hours later. Investigations are continuing.
