A BUS driver has been killed in a collision between two buses and a lorry in South Yorkshire.

Police said at least 14 other people were injured in the crash on the A630 Doncaster Road at Hooton Roberts near Rotherham.

The injured have been taken for treatment to Rotherham General Hospital and Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Bus company First Group Travel said one of its drivers had died. Police said the driver of a TM Travel single-decker bus had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The man who died was driving a double-decker service bus which collided with a blue lorry at around 3.15pm.

Insp Pete Serhatlic from South Yorkshire Police said two other adults had been taken to hospital with serious injuries and a number of other people suffered with minor injuries.

The inspector said neither of the vehicles were school buses and a fire officer at the scene said none of the casualties he had seen were children.

Mr Serhatlic said the single-decker bus appeared to have been travelling down a side road towards the A630 immediately before the collision.

He said a detailed investigation was now under way to try to piece together what happened.

Mr Serhatlic said: “It’s very early days. The collection of evidence at the scene is ongoing.”

He added that the road, which is the main route between Rotherham and Doncaster, would be closed for some time while the vehicles are recovered.
