A MAN was dragged from his vehicle by a carjacker after stopping to ask for directions.

The 59-year-old was on his way from Ossett to Bradford, but got lost in Earlsheaton, Dewsbury, and stopped to ask the way.

When he pulled up on Town Street at 1am on Friday the thief pulled him from his white, P-registered Vauxhall Corsa.

The thief drove off towards Wakefield Road, but abandoned the car when he saw a police dog patrol van ahead at Syke Ing Villas in Chickenley.

It is thought the thief was with a group of four other men who fled when they saw what happened.

Police believe they may have been going home after a night out.

The thief is white, aged 20 to 28, 5ft 9in tall and stocky, with short hair.

Anyone with information should phone Det Con Steve Swailes at Kirklees CID on 01924 431151.
