A DRIVER was fined for racially abusing two parking attendants after they gave him a ticket.

Magistrates ordered Mohammed Salim to pay £145 after he admitted using vile language at the men when he found a parking ticket on his car outside a takeaway at Lidget Street, Lindley.

Alex Johnson, prosecuting, told Huddersfield magistrates that the 57-year-old was visiting a friend in the takeaway on July 30 when the attendants found his Renault Laguna illegally parked.

When Salim found the ticket on his car he turned on the men, shouting at them he could park where he liked.

He called the men a “white piece of s***” and accused them of victimising him because he was not white.

Salim, of Birkby, was arrested by police and admitted a racially aggravated offence under the Public Order Act.

Bob Carr, defending, said his client had been upset about something else when he verbally abused the men.

Salim admitted using unacceptable language.

Chairman of the bench David Lewis said: “It’s not acceptable to shout and swear in public.

“You could have paid the fixed penalty and that would have been it.”

He was ordered to pay £145 fine and court costs.
