A DRIVER was killed and two passengers seriously injured when their car hit a wall.

The tragedy happened at the junction of Moor Lane and Dewsbury Road, Birkenshaw, at around 11pm on Saturday.

Police have revealed it is thought the car may have been travelling in convoy with several others.

Fire crews from Cleckheaton, Batley and Morley, cut the three people from the Honda Civic car, but the driver – a 20-year-old Dewsbury man – was declared dead at the scene.

The other two men, believed to be in their early 20s were taken to Dewsbury District Hospital with injuries which were not thought to be life threatening.

Fire crews say the vehicle had been travelling from Bradford towards Dewsbury when it lost control and smashed into a wall.

Det Insp Andy Garnett from Kirklees CID, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who saw the Honda just before or after the incident to establish what happened here.

“It is suspected that this vehicle may have been driving in tandem with other cars, a Mini Cooper, BMW M3 and a Vauxhall Astra and we would like to speak to anyone who saw them during the course of the journey.’’
