A ROYAL Mail van was shunted through a wall in a crash on a country road.

The van careered through the wall and down a steep slope, on Elland Road, Greetland, before it was stopped by saplings from going any further.

But the trees pushed the doors in so the driver could not escape.

Elland firefighters cut some of the trees down to help the driver out.

Miraculously he was unhurt in the crash which also involved a BMW car.

Crew manager Frank Van Rooyen from Elland fire station said: “He was a very lucky bloke. The van was pushed through a wall, down a steep gradient and into a copse of saplings.

“The front was in the trees and the back wheels and axle were on the wall.’’
